Fighting Lies in a World of Unplanned Pregnancies
Why do I fight in God’s story?
Because my story could be so much different right now if Jesus has not intervened.
Some of you may have heard the story of Abby Johnson - a young woman who was enticed into the world of Planned Parenthood because of her passion to help women and her belief that serving women’s best interests was truly the heart of the organization… until she discovered otherwise and had already participated in thousands of abortions. Praise Jesus, Abby is now a pillar in the pro-life movement, but not until after she had been there for several years, convinced she was doing the best thing for women by providing them with access to birth control and abortions and protecting their would-be children from lives of abuse and neglect.
Do you know how easy it is to fall into that lie?
Don’t fool yourself into thinking that Abby was beyond ignorance and should have known from the beginning how untrue this was. It’s not always that easy. Teach one parenting class to a group of women from “the rough part of town” and you will start to see why Abby thought she was doing their children a favor. Praise Jesus I have since learned otherwise that God is greater than our circumstances and He ordains life even BEFORE the MOMENT OF CONCEPTION.

But, I didn’t come by this truth without the intervention of Jesus. In fact, I barely escaped it. I was in a prime position to get sucked into a world where “Women’s Health” means providing every avenue of health self-destruction for women and reminding them along the way that it’s all about them and they deserve to get the chance to make this choice for themselves because the world is against them. I know that this is what is being taught about Women’s Health because i was hearing it. Every. Single. Day.
I was in my third year of a BSN-RN degree with a minor in Women’s Health when I failed out of the program and was suddenly left trying to figure out what the heck I was going to do. I knew I had a calling for women and I knew that I was meant to serve Jesus but how was I going to do that without my nursing degree? What about all of the women who didn’t have access to safe healthcare?? Who serves women’s health when you don’t have a background in healthcare?!
Let me tell you a secret we might find surprising-especially in this world where we’ve convinced ourselves that all other circumstances must be perfect in order for our hearts to be in alignment with God’s: He cares a whole lot more about your heart than he does about your health. Plain and simple.
Jesus cared more about the hearts of the women I wanted to serve and I needed to realize that first and foremost before I even began to address their health. I had it backwards.
I found my answer and my fight song at a crisis pregnancy center I had been volunteering at, where LIFE and SPIRITUAL HEALING were being given. It suddenly came with full force into my immediate view and I knew that my decision had been made for me and what my purpose was.
Speak truth and compassion into women’s lives who had bought into the lies I had seen promoted in our society and healthcare systems, and were searching for answers, hope, healing or a way out in their most vulnerable and fearful moments. Their story didn’t have to be another statistic and God protected my heart in a sea of lies, so I could protect theirs.
During this revelation I received what has come to be my own personal commission from Jesus (it was divinely placed underneath my chair at a women’s bible study).
“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, Because the LORD has anointed me To bring good news to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to captives And freedom to prisoners; To proclaim the favorable year of the LORD And the day of vengeance of our God; To comfort all who mourn,”
ISAIAH 61:1-2 NASB
I can’t think of a better people group to fit this description than the women who find themselves facing an unplanned pregnancy: feeling bound and captive to the lies of fear, loneliness, and indecision. Praise Jesus He has anointed his servants to come alongside them to bring good news, tangible resources and information, and true FREEDOM that comes only from the heart of He who has created us. Jesus can take us every-day sinners and make us into a true force for the glory of His name and I cannot imagine a higher calling.
This place, no, this HAVEN, where I now serve, that was covered in prayer on a daily basis became Jesus’ protection over what could have been my own “Abby Johnson” story and I have not been the same since.
My name is Courtney and I 365fight.
